The Etymology of “Lit” is Lit

Literature is lit, too, but that's for another time.

Lovers of quirky wordy things prepare to spend the next three minutes reading Merriam-Webster’s brief summary of the etymology of the expression “it’s lit.” For over a century, lit-ness has referred to drunkenness. More recently, hip-hop usage has expanded the term to refer more generally to contexts of revelry. Language is always changing, something we should embrace and celebrate. And when we do, you know that celebration will be all kinds of lit.
