Libraries as Lifelines

Libraries are the other public education system.  In many ways, they have the potential to do things that public schools cannot: libraries have no tests, standards, regulations, and so on.  Yet, they have scale.  In New York City, they are in all neighborhoods and offer a physical space to learn for free.  In this post from Maria Popover’s Brainpickings, she shares a wonderful story about a girl whose life was saved by a mobile library.
